Editorial policy

Every entry names its sources, shows when it was published and when it was last updated, and can be corrected by anyone who can show the record is wrong.

Who writes an entry

Entries are written and edited by the hoodpedia editorial team, not published automatically. The name on an entry is the editor who last worked on it. A person or company that an entry describes can claim it and send corrections, and those corrections go through the same review as our own edits.

Which sources we accept

Facts come from published, checkable sources: the company's own filings and announcements, stock exchange disclosures, regulatory orders, and reporting by established newsrooms. A claim that rests on a single unverified post is not published. Every entry carries the list of sources behind it at the bottom of the page, and numbers such as a funding round or a revenue figure are quoted with the date they were reported.

Dates and updates

Each entry shows the date it was published and the date it was last updated, both taken from the record itself rather than from the build of the site. When a fact changes, the entry is edited and the update date moves with it, so a reader can tell a stale figure from a current one.

What the verified badge means

The lime badge means a member of the team checked the entry against at least one primary source, not that the subject paid for anything and not that the entry is finished. An entry without the badge is still sourced, it simply has not gone through that extra check yet.

Corrections

If something on a page is wrong, send the correction with a link to the source that proves it through the contact page and it will be reviewed. Corrections are applied to the entry rather than discussed in a comment thread, and the update date changes when they land.

Advertising and independence

Advertisements on the site are labelled and kept apart from the entries. No advertiser can buy a claim, a badge, a ranking or a change to the wording of an entry.
