Employees and offices
ONGC had 23,967 employees in June 2025, down sharply from the 48,000 people it employed when it was listed in 1994. About 2,043 of the employees on 31 March 2024 were women, or 7.9 per cent of the workforce.[1]
The registered office has historically been in Dehradun, where the company grew out of the geological survey tradition, and the corporate headquarters now sits at Deendayal Urja Bhawan on Nelson Mandela Road in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. Field operations are spread across the onshore basins and the offshore installations, and the company operates a large training establishment, the Institute of Petroleum Safety, Health and Environment Management at Goa.[1]
ONGC has also kept a sports side of the business that is unusual for an oil company. It has run teams across athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, cricket, cue sports, carrom, hockey, football, kabaddi, shooting, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. Its football team, ONGC F.C., once played in the I-League, and its basketball team is well known because players of India's national team have turned out for it, including Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, Amritpal Singh and Yadwinder Singh.[1]
