Aadit Palicha
Aadit Palicha is an Indian entrepreneur who co-founded Zepto with Kaivalya Vohra in 2021 and runs it as chief executive officer. He left a Stanford University computer science degree to build a ten minute grocery delivery business, and within four years Zepto was valued at 7 billion dollars. He became one of the youngest people on the Hurun India rich list, and he is now the youngest chief executive of a large Indian quick commerce company.

Early life and family
Aadit Palicha is the youngest of the founders this directory covers, and the least documented in his personal life. He was born about 2002, the year that follows from Hurun listing him at 22 in its 2024 India Rich List and again in its 2025 under 30 list, and he has given interviews about his company far more readily than about his childhood. The national business press reports his age but not his birthplace or his parents' names.[9][10]
The one personal relationship that is fully documented is his partnership with Kaivalya Vohra. The two of them started their first company together as teenagers, raised the first cheque together, dropped out of the same university together and then built Zepto together, and Vohra remains co-founder of the company. They described the origin of the grocery idea in the most ordinary way possible: as two young men living alone who found buying groceries difficult, which is the problem they set out to solve for themselves.[2]
He enrolled at Stanford University to study computer science and left without finishing a degree. The sequence matters to the story of the company: the pre-seed investor Contrary Capital offered funding on the condition that they drop out, and the decision to leave was taken before Zepto existed, while the first venture was still called KiranaKart. In later interviews he has referred to himself by that label, a Stanford dropout, without embarrassment, and the choice is the reason the company was started when he was 19 rather than later.[1][2]
Because the reliable record does not carry the names of his parents, wife or children, this entry does not state any. He is in his twenties, unmarried as far as any publisher reports, and has kept his family out of his public life. The rule this directory follows is simple: a fact about a private individual goes into a page when a large publisher states it, not because a profile site has scraped it.[9]
Education
Palicha's documented education is short: he attended Stanford University for computer science and did not complete the degree. Both he and Vohra left the university in 2021, and the funding they raised from Contrary Capital was tied to that decision, which is why the departure is treated as the founding moment of the company rather than as an interruption in his studies.[1][2]
The gap he left is visible in how he talks about the business. He has argued that India has not produced a large language model of its own because it has not produced enough large, profitable internet companies to fund that kind of research, which is an argument about capital generation rather than about talent. He made the same point in a public exchange with the commerce minister Piyush Goyal, who had suggested that Indian startups should move from delivery apps to deep technology: Palicha replied that consumer internet companies had employed about 1.5 lakh people, and that the order of things matters, because the profits of one generation of companies pay for the next.[14]
There is no later degree, no executive programme and no second institution in the record. What replaced the university for him was the Y Combinator programme, which KiranaKart joined in 2020 and which provided the network, the early investors and part of the discipline that the second company inherited.[1]
Business career and companies
Palicha's first company was KiranaKart, started with Kaivalya Vohra when both were 17 and formally founded in June 2020. The idea was to work with neighbourhood grocery shops and deliver their goods in about 45 minutes, using the shops as the inventory and the company as the delivery layer. It joined Y Combinator, raised 730,000 dollars in January 2021 in a pre-seed round led by Contrary Capital at a valuation of 2.5 million dollars, and set itself a target of completing its first 1.5 lakh deliveries at a delivery cost of one rupee.[1][2]
KiranaKart did not work. Delivery through shops meant that the company controlled neither the stock nor the speed, and in March 2021 it shut. The founders took roughly a month and started again, and the second attempt was a reversal of the first in every respect: instead of connecting shops, Zepto would own the inventory; instead of 45 minutes, the promise would be ten; instead of a marketplace, the company would build a network of dark stores, small warehouses placed inside dense neighbourhoods with a few thousand items each. The company was rebranded from KiranaKart to Zepto in July 2021, the name taken from the zeptosecond, the smallest unit of time.[1]
The speed promise was not a marketing decision in his account. He has said that early customers complained about delays and that the ten minute promise was a response to that feedback, and that once the company delivered in ten minutes the net promoter score rose and stayed at around 85 with week on week retention above 50 per cent. The commercial argument he uses is the one the sector now accepts: Indian online shoppers are among the most impatient in the world, with a large share expecting delivery in under two hours.[14]
Zepto is still the only company he runs. He is its co-founder and chief executive officer, and he has been the public face of every funding round, every strategic change and every argument the company has had since it was founded, which for a founder who turned 24 in about 2026 is an unusual amount of public exposure in a short career.[3][6]
Zepto: the dark store model
The business Palicha built is a warehouse business wearing an app. Zepto runs dark stores, closed warehouses placed inside residential neighbourhoods, stocked with a few thousand items, from which pickers assemble orders that riders then deliver. In 2024 the company operated over 350 of them across 10 cities and said it would double the number to more than 700 by March 2025 while entering ten new cities, and the new stores would be larger, about 4,000 square feet against 3,500.[3]
The product range widened at the same pace. The assortment grew from about 3,000 stock keeping units to 10,000, and it moved well past groceries into electronics, beauty and personal care, toys, stationery and appliances, the categories that e commerce platforms had treated as their own. Those additions are what lifted average order values, which is the number that decides whether a dark store ever pays for itself.[3]
The unit economics improved early and then became the company's main talking point. In late 2023 the company said that many of its more than 200 dark stores had turned fully profitable and that its business had grown four fold in a year, and in 2024 he said that about 75 per cent of the stores were profitable on an earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation basis. By October 2025 he told the press that when the 7 billion dollar round closed, the company had more profitable stores than its entire network had contained a year earlier, with close to 1.7 million orders a day.[2][4][6]
Scale brought a second set of obligations. The company employed more than 1,600 people in 2024 and was adding headcount quickly, and its delivery network is part of a gig workforce that, across Zepto, Zomato, Blinkit and Swiggy, numbers in the millions. The ten minute promise that made the company famous is also the promise that concentrates pressure on the people who pick and ride, which is why the model attracts as much scrutiny as admiration.[3][16]
Zepto Cafe, Bloom and the other verticals
Zepto Cafe, launched in April 2022, delivers coffee and ready to eat food from the same store network. By late 2024 it was serving through more than 120 cafes in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru and the company said it was aiming for a 1,000 crore rupee revenue run rate from the vertical by 2026.[1]
Bloom, started in February 2023, was a platform for farmers to manage food production and move goods from villages to cities, an attempt to reach backwards into the supply chain rather than forwards into the customer's home.[1]
Zepto Pass, the paid membership programme opened in February 2024, crossed four million subscribers by April of that year and became the company's main instrument for retention against rival platforms.[1]
Pharmacy delivery was announced in August 2025 with the same ten minute promise in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, and the company said it would scale carefully because of the regulatory and operational demands of medicines.[13]
Supply chain investment is the quiet theme behind all of them. Palicha has argued that there is an opportunity to build what he described as a Delhivery for fruits and vegetables, with ripening chambers, packaging automation and a collection centre network, and that every rupee saved in supply chain cost can be returned to customers in price.[14]
Ten minute delivery of general merchandise, from electronics to apparel during festival season, is the ambition he states most often in public, and it is the reason the company keeps widening the assortment in stores that were built, originally, to sell milk and vegetables.[3]
The funding ladder and the valuation story
No Indian company went up the valuation ladder as fast as Zepto did between 2021 and 2025, and Palicha was on the other side of every rung of it. The company raised 60 million dollars in October 2021 at a valuation of 225 million dollars, then 100 million dollars in December 2021 at 570 million dollars, then 200 million dollars in May 2022 at 900 million dollars. Each round was signed within months of the last, at a multiple of the previous price.[1]
It became a unicorn in August 2023 with a 200 million dollar round at 1.4 billion dollars, raised from StepStone Group and Goodwater Capital with existing backers participating, in a year when Indian risk capital was in sharp decline. The next twelve months supplied the largest jump: 665 million dollars in June 2024 at 3.6 billion dollars, then 340 million dollars in August 2024 at 5 billion dollars, taking the total raised since inception past 1.5 billion dollars. He said at the time that about 40 per cent of the June round came from new investors and that he regarded the money as balance sheet building ahead of a listing rather than fuel to burn.[1][3][5]
The peak of the private story came in October 2025, when the California Public Employees' Retirement System led a 450 million dollar round at a valuation of 7 billion dollars. He described it as a pre-IPO round, said the company held about 900 million dollars of net cash, and said domestic ownership would rise to 40 per cent from 12 per cent within weeks as the company brought its domicile back from Singapore to India. The last private price is the number every later argument about the company has been measured against.[6]
The market then disagreed with that price. By mid 2026 the pricing institutions were willing to pay for Zepto's shares had fallen far below the last private round, and the company chose to wait rather than list at a discount, which is a decision Palicha took and announced to his own employees.[8][7]
Net worth and wealth
Palicha's wealth is paper wealth in a private company, which makes it both large and fragile. The Hurun India Rich List of 2024 put him at 4,300 crore rupees at the age of 22, making him the second youngest person on that list, one place behind his own co-founder Kaivalya Vohra, whose wealth was put at 3,600 crore rupees at 21. That listing is the only large publisher figure attached to his name.[9]
The number rests on the private valuation of Zepto at the time, and private valuations are opinions until a listing happens. Between 2024 and 2026 the company's private valuation went from 3.6 billion dollars to 5 billion dollars to 7 billion dollars, while the price institutions were prepared to pay at an initial public offering went the other way, to a range of 2.5 to 3 billion dollars for the anchor book. A stake worth 4,300 crore rupees at the 2024 mark is not worth the same at a 3 billion dollar enterprise value, and neither the company nor he has published a fresh personal figure since.[9][7][6]
He has also realised part of his position, which is unusual for a founder of his age in a company that has not listed. Press reporting around the 2025 IPO plans recorded that domestic ownership in Zepto was being raised and that the founders' holdings were being reorganised as part of moving the domicile back to India, changes that affect the form and the jurisdiction of his stake rather than its headline size.[6]
For a directory entry the honest summary is this: reported at 4,300 crore rupees in 2024, almost entirely in Zepto shares, sensitive to a valuation that the public market has since marked well below the last private round, and not independently verified in any later list.[9][7]
Wife, children and family
This section is short because the record is short. No large publisher reports that Palicha is married, and no publisher names a wife, a partner or children for him. He is in his mid twenties, he built his first company at 17 and his second at 19, and his public profile is almost entirely professional. This entry therefore leaves the family rows unstated rather than filling them from profile websites.[9]
The family that does appear in his story is the working one. His co-founder Kaivalya Vohra is the person he started both companies with, and the two of them have been described together in nearly every funding announcement, hiring update and strategy statement Zepto has made, including the leadership changes announced in 2023 and the decision to defer the listing in 2026. Where an Indian founder's family normally supplies the anecdotes, in his case the co-founder supplies them.[1][8]
There is one light hearted exception in the record, and it is worth having for the tone it sets. In the wedding season of 2024 a billboard exchange between Shaadi.com and Zepto, in which the matrimonial site joked that finding a groom takes longer than ten minutes, ended with a public reply from him that went viral. It is the closest the record comes to his personal life being discussed in public, and the answer was a joke about delivery speed.[11]
Personal life and habits
Palicha's personal style is the opposite of the founder the Indian startup scene usually celebrates. He is young, he talks in numbers, and he has spent most of his public appearances defending operational choices rather than selling a vision. When he does speak about himself it is in the language of execution: he has said that the company's culture is built for people who want to do the best work of their lives, that it is not for everyone, and that he considers his own 2024 comment on work life balance a stupid idea in hindsight.[11]
That episode is worth recording properly because it is the one time his personal judgement became a national debate. The 2024 post, in which he recommended work life balance to the company's competitors, was followed by a viral account of long working hours at Zepto's offices, and in April 2025 he withdrew the remark on a podcast with Y Combinator's Garry Tan, describing the funding crisis of 2022 and 2023, the hiring mistakes the company made during it, and the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank as the period that shaped how hard the company asks people to work.[11]
The Silicon Valley Bank episode is the story he tells most vividly about himself under pressure: a large part of Zepto's operating money was sitting with the bank when it failed in March 2023, and his description of that week is that the company almost died. He was 21 at the time. It is the clearest example in his record of a business surviving on the strength of a balance sheet decision rather than a product one.[12]
His public interests are the ones the company needs him to have. He talks about supply chains, ripening chambers and food wastage, about India needing profitable internet companies to fund deep technology, and about quick commerce as an infrastructure business rather than a convenience app. There is no sport, no art collection and no charitable vehicle in the record, and he has not published anything personal that a directory could fairly call a hobby.[14][13]
House and property
There is no reported house, apartment or land purchase in Palicha's name. He does not appear in property reporting, he has no disclosed real estate holding, and the company's own property story is the opposite of personal: Zepto's most discussed addresses are its dark stores, the small warehouses it rents in residential neighbourhoods to shorten the last mile, and one of those leases being cut short is a business decision rather than a personal one.[3]
What the record does show is where he lives and works. Zepto was headquartered in Mumbai and moved to Bengaluru in 2024, and Palicha moved with it; the company described the shift as a move towards the country's startup and talent base, and the Bengaluru address appears in every later filing and announcement. Real estate in his name appears nowhere.[1]
The only property argument connected to him is the regulatory one. Food safety inspectors who suspended dark store licences in Telangana in October 2026 were inspecting exactly the kind of rented warehouse space the model depends on, which makes the quality of those premises a governance question for the company rather than a personal asset question for its founder.[14]
The IPO that was deferred
Palicha spent two years telling the market that Zepto would list, and then chose not to. In 2024 he said the company wanted to be public in the relatively near term and described the funding rounds of that year as balance sheet building ahead of a listing. By 2025 the company had engaged investors, brought its domicile back to India, and raised what it called a pre-IPO round of 450 million dollars. In 2026 it filed confidentially with the market regulator and then, in July, he told employees that the company would defer and refile after two quarters.[3][6][8]
The reason was price. People familiar with the discussions told the press that the pricing offered by large institutional investors for the anchor book was in the 2.5 to 3 billion dollar range, down from the 3.5 to 4 billion dollars discussed earlier in July, and far below the 7 billion dollars at which the company had raised private money nine months earlier. Rather than accept a discount that would have repriced the whole company and every employee's stock, he stopped.[8]
The alternative was a pre-IPO placement. The company began raising more than 1,000 crore rupees, about 105 million dollars, largely from existing investors and with domestic institutions expected to lead, at a valuation reported around 4 to 4.2 billion dollars. Under Indian rules such a placement can be up to 20 per cent of the proposed fresh issue, and whatever is raised that way is deducted from the public offering, so the listing gets smaller the longer it waits.[7]
His stated reason for waiting is performance rather than sentiment: the company expects a better profitability profile over the next few quarters to support a better price. That is the same argument he uses inside the business, and it is now the main test of his judgement, because a deferred listing has to be justified by numbers rather than by a story.[8][15]
Running Zepto: execution, hiring and the SVB scare
The management style Palicha describes is narrow and deliberate: hire people who have done the job before, keep the organisation small enough to move, and make the store the unit of everything. When he announced leadership changes in 2023 he elevated the operations leadership rather than bringing in outsiders, promoting the supply chain head to president and the operations head to chief operating officer, and described the team as the reason the business had quadrupled.[4]
He is candid about having got hiring wrong. In the podcast interview of April 2025 he described the funding downturn of 2022 and 2023 as the period when the company's mistakes in hiring and cost structure became visible, and said that the company had to correct them while running. That admission, combined with the near death experience of the Silicon Valley Bank failure, is the arc he uses to explain the culture he defends.[11][12]
The operational discipline shows up in how the company talks about itself. Its stated unit of progress is the profitability of a dark store, not the size of the network, and by 2025 he was telling the market that the company had more profitable stores than its whole network had held a year earlier, with about 900 million dollars of net cash on the balance sheet to ride out a market that had turned cautious.[6]
In 2026 that discipline became a change of direction. Rather than continue to chase order volume, the company began targeting a higher average order value to cut losses, which made it the third large quick commerce player, after Blinkit and Swiggy's Instamart, to trade growth for a better bottom line. For a company whose promise is speed, the strategic shift is from more orders to richer ones.[15]
Competition: Blinkit, Instamart and Flipkart Minutes
Zepto operates in a category where it is neither the largest nor the best funded. Blinkit, owned by the company now called Eternal, and Swiggy's Instamart are the two bigger players by market share, and both of their parents have deep public market capital. Zepto's own plan at the time of its biggest funding round was to double its dark stores to 700 while Blinkit moved from 526 stores towards 1,000 and Instamart operated more than 500, a race in which the smallest company had to buy growth with capital it had less of.[3]
Being third by share has shaped the strategy more than any product decision. Zepto entered categories first, moved into new cities aggressively, launched verticals like Cafe and pharmacy ahead of its rivals, and used the speed promise as a brand rather than a feature. When the market turned, it was also the first to say out loud that it would stop chasing volume, because unlike its rivals it did not have a profitable parent to fund the fight.[15]
New entrants keep arriving. Flipkart has built its own quick delivery operation with the backing of the world's largest retailer, Amazon has committed billions to fast delivery in India, and in 2026 a group of former Zepto executives raised money for another challenger, BazaarNow, with reports of further investment interest. The people Palicha trained are now among the people competing with him.[15]
The competition has also changed in character. Brokerage analysis in 2026 pointed to discounting moderating across the sector and pricing discipline returning, which is the environment in which a company that has promised profitability has to prove the promise. For Zepto, the cake is large and growing; the question the last two years have raised is whether it can hold its position without the subsidies that built it.[15]
Awards and recognition
Palicha's recognition is almost entirely of the youngest kind. Hurun put him on the India Rich List in 2024 as the second youngest entrant, at 22 with 4,300 crore rupees, behind only his co-founder, and the same year's list of self made entrepreneurs named the Zepto founders among the youngest names on it. In 2025 the inaugural Hurun India under 30 list, produced with Avendus Wealth, included 79 entrepreneurs under 30 and called the two Zepto co-founders the youngest on it, again at 22.[9][10]
The company has collected the industry awards that go with fast growth, and its founders are regularly invited to the stages where Indian founders are celebrated, including the Economic Times Startup Awards, where he spoke about sales targets when Zepto was the country's newest unicorn, and Y Combinator's startup school, where he has become a regular voice on operations.[14]
He has not received a national honour and does not hold an award comparable to the civil honours given to the founders of the country's largest technology companies. For a founder who is still in his mid twenties that is not unusual; the question the record leaves open is whether the recognition that matters for him will be the speed of the company's growth or the profitability he has promised the market.[7]
Board memberships and holdings
Co-founder and chief executive officer, Zepto, the role he has held since the company was founded in 2021, and the one in which he signs every funding announcement, strategy statement and leadership change.[1]
Chief executive of a company preparing for listing, which since 2025 has included the work of bringing Zepto's domicile back from Singapore to India and raising the domestic ownership of the business to 40 per cent from 12 per cent.[6]
Founder of KiranaKart, the company he started with Kaivalya Vohra in 2020 and closed in March 2021, which survives in the corporate history rather than as a business.[1]
He holds no outside directorships, no board seat at another company and no industry body position in the public record. At his age and with the company unlisted, his board work so far is the running of Zepto itself, including the 2026 decision to defer the listing, which was communicated by him to the company's employees rather than through the boardroom.[8]
Philanthropy
There is no philanthropic foundation in Palicha's name, no published pledge and no named giving programme. At 24 with a private, unlisted company and a fortune entirely on paper, he is at the stage where Indian founders usually begin such commitments, and nothing of the kind is in the record. This entry says so rather than converting company activity into personal charity.[9]
His public contribution so far is employment, and he makes that argument himself. When the commerce minister suggested that Indian startups should move beyond delivery apps, Palicha responded that Zepto employed about 1.5 lakh people, most of them delivery riders, and that consumer internet businesses had become a large source of entry level work in Indian cities. Across Zepto and its competitors the gig delivery workforce is measured in millions, a fact that cuts both ways, because it is also the workforce that carries the strain of the ten minute promise.[14][16]
He also talks about farmers and the food supply chain as a public problem rather than a business one. The Bloom service, the campaign for ripening chambers and cold chain investment, and his argument that wasted produce is a national loss all sit in that space, presented as commercial opportunities that reduce waste rather than as charity.[1][14]
Controversies and criticism
The loudest criticism of Palicha has been about work culture, and it started with his own post. In 2024 he wrote that he had nothing against work life balance and recommended it to competitors, a remark that travelled widely in a year when the subject was already being debated nationally by older founders. A viral account of late night meetings and long hours at Zepto followed, and the company's working environment became a news story in its own right. In April 2025 he withdrew the post, called it a stupid idea, and said the company's fast paced environment is not for everyone, while standing by the idea that it suits people who want to do their best work.[11]
The second criticism is about how the platforms treat the people who deliver for them. Al Jazeera and other publishers have documented the strain that ten minute promises place on delivery riders, who are paid per order and face penalties for delays, in a country where the expectation of instant delivery has become mainstream. The company has not disputed the reporting; its answer has been employment numbers and a defence of the model.[16][14]
The third line of criticism is regulatory and it is growing. Food safety authorities in Telangana inspected 16 dark stores of quick commerce platforms in October 2026 and suspended four licences over expired stock, pest infestation and improper storage, naming Zepto among the companies involved, and the national food regulator began examining whether such platforms disclose expiry and batch details before a customer orders. The sector has moved from being unregulated to being inspected.[14]
The fourth is consumer facing and older: complaints of a gap between the price shown on one phone and another, of dark patterns in the app that push customers into choices they did not intend, and of a viral account of a fourteen hour working schedule and overcharging that circulated at the end of 2024. None of that was ever adjudicated, and the company has denied or not commented on parts of it, but the pattern is the same one every fast growth consumer platform attracts, and it is the reason his company now answers to a regulator.[14]
The last criticism is strategic rather than moral: that Zepto grew on capital it may not be able to justify, and that a founder who promised a listing in 2025 and deferred it in 2026 has to prove that the delay is about performance and not about price. That argument is unresolved and will be settled by the company's numbers, not by anything he says.[7][8]
Reading the numbers
The numbers that define Palicha's company, with their years attached, are these. Zepto raised 730,000 dollars in January 2021 at a valuation of 2.5 million dollars, 60 million dollars in October 2021 at 225 million dollars, 100 million dollars in December 2021 at 570 million dollars, 200 million dollars in May 2022 at 900 million dollars, 200 million dollars in August 2023 at 1.4 billion dollars, 665 million dollars in June 2024 at 3.6 billion dollars, 340 million dollars in August 2024 at 5 billion dollars, and 450 million dollars in October 2025 at 7 billion dollars. The whole company was worth 2.5 million dollars five years before it was worth 7 billion dollars.[1][3][5][6]
The operating numbers moved in the same direction but slower. The store network went from over 350 stores in 10 cities in 2024 towards a target of more than 700 by March 2025, the assortment went from about 3,000 products to 10,000, headcount went from more than 1,600 towards more than 2,000, and about 75 per cent of stores were reported profitable at the operating level in 2024. By October 2025 the company said it was handling close to 1.7 million orders a day and held about 900 million dollars of net cash.[3][6]
The numbers that unsettled the listing were different ones. In July 2026 the pricing institutions offered for the anchor book was in the 2.5 to 3 billion dollar range against a private valuation of 7 billion dollars, and the pre-IPO placement that followed was reported at around 4 to 4.2 billion dollars, above the mutual fund range of 2.5 to 3 billion dollars and well below the private mark. That is the whole argument about the company in two numbers.[8][7]
For his own page the figure to carry is the one Hurun published: 4,300 crore rupees in 2024 at the age of 22, second youngest on the India Rich List and behind only his co-founder. It is a snapshot of a private valuation, not a fact about a bank account, and the last two years have shown exactly how much the difference matters.[9]
