Kaivalya Vohra is an Indian entrepreneur who co-founded Zepto with Aadit Palicha in 2021 and helped build it into one of the largest quick commerce businesses in the country. He left a Stanford University computer science degree to run a company that promises grocery delivery in ten minutes. He was the youngest person on the Hurun India rich list at 19, and he remains one of the youngest promoters of a large Indian internet company.

Early life and family
Kaivalya Vohra was born in about 2002, which makes him one of the youngest people ever to appear on an Indian wealth list. The only public record of his age is the Hurun India rich list, which described him as 19 years old in September 2022, 21 in August 2024 and 22 in October 2025, and those three points are consistent with a birth year of 2002 or early 2003.[3][4][5]
He grew up in the same school circle as Aadit Palicha, the friend who became his business partner. The two were classmates before they were co-founders, and the reporting on Zepto describes the company as something they built out of a friendship and a shared frustration rather than out of a family business.[2]
Neither he nor his company has published details of his parents, his siblings or his childhood home, and this entry does not guess at them. Unlike the founders covered more heavily in the Indian press, Vohra has given very few interviews and has never used his personal story as part of the company's marketing. What the record does show is a teenager who was already building software with a partner while still at school, and who then made a decision that most families would have argued against.[2][3]
The family background that made the decision possible is not documented at all. There are no reported interviews with his parents, no account of their professions, and no school or city named in the licensed press. Anyone reading about Zepto will find the company's story covered in great detail and the co-founder's own history covered almost not at all, which is why this page states plainly that the detail is missing instead of filling it in from social media rumour.[1][2]
What is public is the shape of the gamble. Two 17 year olds took a 730,000 dollar cheque that was conditional on them leaving Stanford, a university most Indian families treat as the end of a search rather than the start of one, and they spent it on a grocery business that failed within a year. The second attempt, made when they were 19, produced a company that was valued at 1.4 billion dollars two years later.[2][3]
Education and the Stanford dropout
Vohra enrolled at Stanford University to study computer science and left the degree unfinished, a decision he has never described at length in public. The companies that write about Zepto have treated the dropout as the founding fact of the business: the pair did not defer their studies and return, they quit, sold everything they had and moved back to India to work on the startup full time.[2]
The investment that forced the choice came from Contrary Capital in January 2021. The fund's offer of 730,000 dollars in pre-seed money was, by more than one account, tied to the condition that the founders drop out of Stanford and commit to the business completely. It is an unusual clause in venture capital and it turned an academic decision into a commercial one. The round valued the company at 2.5 million dollars.[1][2]
His technical education shows up in the one part of the Zepto story that is documented closely: the app itself. By the time Zepto named Nikhil Mittal its chief technology officer in January 2024, the chief executive was explicit that the first version of the application had been built by Mittal together with Kaivalya, and that Mittal had been the first employee. The founder did not hand the product off to a hire, he wrote the early version with one.[7]
There is no reported degree, no exchange programme, no internship and no earlier startup from his school years in the licensed press. He appears in the public record in 2020, at 17, with a company already registered, and the education section of his story begins and ends with the university he left.[2][3]
The practical consequence of the dropout is that both founders came to the business without an operating background. KiranaKart had no dark stores and no delivery fleet of its own, and its failure taught them the model they would need instead. Zepto was built by two people who had studied computer science, not retail or logistics, and the company's early edge came from that: an app that worked, and a warehouse network designed around it rather than retrofitted to it.[1][2]
Business career and companies
Vohra's business career has effectively been one company in two versions. The first, KiranaKart, was founded in 2020 when he and Aadit Palicha were 17 and still living at home through the pandemic. It partnered with neighbourhood kirana shops and promised delivery in about 45 minutes, with the shops doing the picking and the platform doing the demand. The pair joined Y Combinator, raised 730,000 dollars led by Contrary Capital in January 2021, and set a public target of 150,000 deliveries at a delivery cost of one rupee.[1][2][3]
The model did not work. The shops could not hold inventory for a promise they did not control, the delivery could not be made fast enough, and the company was shut down in March 2021, less than a year after it was incorporated. Both founders have since described that failure as the reason the second version was designed vertically from the start.[1][2]
The second version was started in April 2021 and rebranded Zepto in July, the name taken from the zeptosecond, the smallest unit of time that has a name. Instead of partnering with shops, Zepto would own and run small warehouses, later called dark stores, and employ the riders or contract them through partners, so that the picking and the delivery were inside the same system. The ten minute promise was the marketing, and the warehouse network was the product.[1][2]
The pair split the work along the lines of their interests. Palicha, the chief executive, took the money, the hiring and the public voice. Vohra, the co-founder, took the product and technology side and became the face of the company in engineering matters, including the CTO announcement in which his name appears as the person who built the first app with Zepto's first employee.[7]
Zepto also gave him a different kind of visibility. In August 2023, when a 22 year old named Yash Acharya posted the email he had received after applying for a product design internship, which offered him the role of delivery boy in Mumbai instead, the post went viral and Vohra replied to it himself, asking for the resume and the portfolio. Contemporaneous reporting called him the company's chief executive in that story, a title that conflicted with his co-founder and technology role and which the company did not repeat afterwards.[8]
By 2026 his position was formal rather than operational. The prospectus filed for the listing names him as a promoter of Zepto along with Palicha, and the promoter group, meaning the two founders together with their families and their family offices, held about 19.6 per cent of the company at the time of the updated filing. When the founders chose not to sell into the offer for sale, it was the same document that made the choice public.[9][10]
Zepto: the dark store model
The business Vohra co-founded is a network of small urban warehouses that hold the most frequently bought few thousand products and serve a radius of roughly two kilometres. The company calls them dark stores because they are not open to walk in customers. Orders arrive in the app, pickers assemble them in minutes, and riders leave on two wheelers. The whole system is designed backwards from a delivery time rather than forwards from a shop.[1][6]
That design is what made the ten minute promise possible, and it is also what makes the economics difficult. Every dark store is a fixed cost, a lease, a fit out, staff and inventory, and it only pays for itself when the order density inside its radius is high. The company said in November 2023 that dozens of its more than 200 dark stores had turned fully profitable, having grown the business fourfold in a year, and it has since added stores at a much faster rate than that, reaching 1,139 dark stores by 31 March 2026.[6][10]
Scale has been the answer to the density problem. As the store count grew, so did the buying power and the share of orders in each store's catchment, and the company's operating revenue reached 7,498 crore rupees in the quarter ending 31 March 2026, up 75 per cent from the same quarter a year earlier. It also processed 210 million orders in that quarter, against 274 million for Blinkit and 113 million for Swiggy's Instamart, so it sits between its two listed rivals by volume.[10]
The losses have narrowed on some measures and stayed large on others. The same quarter carried a net loss of 1,539 crore rupees, an improvement on the 1,832 crore rupees lost in the year earlier quarter. The funds from the listing were earmarked for expanding the store network, paying lease rentals, technology and cloud costs, and marketing, which tells the reader what the company itself thinks the constraint is: not demand, but the capital needed to keep building warehouses.[10]
For a co-founder who came from the product side, the dark store network is the part of the business he cannot see from a screen. It needs real estate scouts, licences, cold chain, municipal waste rules and a rider fleet, and in October 2026 the company ran into exactly that kind of problem when food safety authorities in Telangana suspended the licences of several dark stores belonging to Zepto and its peers over violations. The regulatory surface of a warehouse network is now part of the company's risk as much as its delivery time is part of its promise.[1]
Zepto Cafe, Bloom, Zepto Pass and the other verticals
Zepto has spent its funding on categories beyond groceries. Zepto Cafe, launched in April 2022, delivers coffee and ready to eat food from the same dark store network, so a breakfast order arrives with the milk. Bloom, launched in February 2023, was aimed at the other end of the supply chain: helping farmers plan production and move produce from villages into cities.[1]
The membership programme has been the most successful of the additions. Zepto Pass went live in February 2024 and crossed four million subscribers within about two months, which turned a free delivery promise into a recurring revenue line and gave the company a way to separate customers who order often from those who order once. It is the model that the company's rivals have copied in different forms, and it matters to the unit economics of every dark store because a subscriber orders more often from the same radius.[1]
Pharmacy delivery with the same ten minute promise was added later, and the company has kept launching smaller services, from cafe counters inside stores to higher value electronics and beauty categories, on the argument that the same rider and the same warehouse can carry a wider basket. Every added category raises the average order value without needing a new customer, which is the number the company has said it is trying to push up after the listing was deferred.[1]
For Vohra these verticals are the product roadmap of the company he helped design. The engineering problem they create is harder than the original one: a grocery order is a list of standard items, while a cafe order, a medicine order and a phone accessory have different picking rules, different storage needs and different return policies, all inside a building the size of a small shop.[1][7]
The company's own description of its plans, filed with the listing documents, puts most of the new money into the store network and the technology behind it rather than into any single new category. That is a statement about where Zepto thinks its advantage sits, and it is also a statement about how much of the co-founders' original design has survived: the ten minute promise, delivered from a warehouse within walking distance of the customer.[10]
The funding ladder and the valuation story
Zepto has raised money at an almost annual cadence and at steeply rising valuations, which is the unusual part of its record. The pre-seed round at a 2.5 million dollar valuation in January 2021 was followed by 60 million dollars at 225 million dollars in October 2021, 100 million dollars at 570 million dollars in December 2021, 200 million dollars at 900 million dollars in May 2022, and 200 million dollars at 1.4 billion dollars in August 2023, which made it a unicorn and the first of 2023.[1]
The 2024 rounds were the largest. The company raised 665 million dollars at 3.6 billion dollars in June 2024 and another 340 million dollars two months later at 5 billion dollars, taking its total raised in that single year past a billion dollars. In October 2025 it raised 450 million dollars at 7 billion dollars, with public pension money from California and existing funds including Lightspeed and Goodwater participating.[1][14][15]
That last figure became a problem when the company went to the public market. Reporting in July 2026, as the anchor book for the listing was closing, put the valuation for the offer at about 5.1 billion dollars, well below the 7 billion dollar mark of the private round nine months earlier. An anchor book that large was expected to be taken up by Norges and Motilal Oswal for 40 to 45 per cent of it, which is the kind of concentration that tells a reader the issue needed institutions rather than retail buyers to clear.[12]
The company then deferred the listing. In August 2026 it instead looked to raise over 1,000 crore rupees in a pre-IPO placement from existing and domestic investors, keeping the option of a public listing for later, and the chief executive told employees that the papers would be refiled after two quarters. The fresh issue in the June papers was 8,010 crore rupees with an offer for sale of 113 million shares, so the money that the deferral postpones is not small.[10][16]
For Vohra, whose entire reported net worth is the value of his Zepto stake, the difference between a 7 billion dollar mark and a 5.1 billion dollar one is a direct haircut rather than an abstraction. The Hurun figures that put him at 4,480 crore rupees in October 2025 were calculated at the private valuation, and the pre-IPO placement price will decide what his holding is actually worth on the day the shares trade.[5][12]
The IPO that was filed and then deferred
Zepto filed its listing papers confidentially in December 2025 and received regulatory approval in May 2026, which put it on course to become the first standalone quick commerce company to list on the Indian exchanges, after Blinkit's parent Eternal and Instamart's parent Swiggy. The updated prospectus that followed in June set out a fresh issue of 8,010 crore rupees and an offer for sale of 113 million shares, a total issue of about 9,500 crore rupees.[10]
The two founders chose not to sell. The prospectus shows Palicha and Vohra retaining their stakes and taking no part in the offer for sale, which was led instead by early investors. Nexus Ventures was the largest seller, offering up to 8.91 crore equity shares through two arms, with ZEP Holdings selling up to 78 lakh shares acquired at a weighted average cost of 3.98 rupees each and Razor Ventures Zepto LLC selling up to 94 lakh shares acquired at an average cost of 11.37 rupees. Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and the Kaiser Permanente Group Trust were also sellers.[10]
The filing also carried an uncomfortable disclosure. Both founders had received summons from the Enforcement Directorate on 8 April 2026 under the foreign exchange law, seeking shareholding, business and investment details. Vohra appeared before the agency on 17 April and 22 April and Palicha on 20 April and 15 May, and the company said both had provided the information and documents requested, including the holding structure, the scheme of arrangement, agreements and invoices. Reporting of the summons linked the investigation to alleged money laundering involving a Cyprus based betting platform, on the allegation that Zepto had run promotional campaigns and circulated flyers with customer orders for a gambling app banned in India.[11]
By August 2026 the listing had been deferred and the company was looking at a pre-IPO placement instead. The reasoning, as reported, was valuation and market conditions rather than a defect in the company: Zepto had grown revenue 75 per cent in the March quarter but was still losing more than 1,500 crore rupees a quarter, and a listing at 5.1 billion dollars against a private mark of 7 billion dollars would have crystallised a markdown on the day of the debut.[12][16]
The deferred listing leaves the co-founder's public position in an unusual place. He is a promoter of a company that has passed every clearance for a listing, has filed a prospectus that names him, has not sold a single share, and is still private. The next move is the pre-IPO placement, and the price at which domestic and existing investors take that will be the number that sets his reported wealth for the following year.[10][16]
Running Zepto: his role and the engineering team
Vohra's formal title has changed as the company has grown, and the record is worth reading carefully. Early reporting described him as the chief technology officer, and the 2022 Hurun coverage captioned him exactly that way. In January 2024 the company elevated Nikhil Mittal, its first employee, from senior vice president of engineering to chief technology officer, putting him in charge of an engineering team of more than 200 people. The chief executive's explanation of the promotion is the clearest statement of what Vohra had done until then: Mittal built the engineering team from scratch with the co-founder, and the first version of the app was built by Mittal along with Kaivalya.[3][7]
That arrangement, a founder who writes the first version and then hands the discipline to a specialist, is common in technology companies and rare in Indian consumer startups of Zepto's size. It also explains why he became harder to see in the press after 2024: the company's public voice is the chief executive's, and the technology announcements are now made by the chief technology officer.[7]
What the founders have said about the operating culture is that the constraint is execution speed, not capital. Zepto scaled from a few stores to more than a thousand in about five years, opened and closed categories, moved its head office from Mumbai to Bengaluru in 2024, and ran a hiring and layoff cycle during the funding winter. The company also went through a series of senior exits, including its chief marketing officer, its engineering head and its chief financial officer, which the leadership changes of November 2023 were meant to settle.[6][7]
The one moment where his role became public in an operational way came from a customer service failure of sorts. The delivery boy offer sent to a product design applicant in August 2023 was a recruiting error, and it went viral because it looked like a company confusing two very different jobs. Vohra's reply, asking for the candidate's resume and portfolio, turned it into a story about a founder reading his own mentions. It is the only widely reported instance of him intervening personally in the company's public conversation.[8]
There is no published account of his working hours, his management style or the size of the team that reports to him. The company's engineering organisation is described publicly only through the CTO announcement, which put it above 200 people in early 2024 and growing. Everything else that is known about how Zepto is run comes from the prospectus, which is written by bankers and says more about the company than about the people who founded it.[7][10]
Competition: Blinkit, Instamart and Flipkart Minutes
Zepto competes with three kinds of company at once. Blinkit, owned by Eternal, and Instamart, owned by Swiggy, are quick commerce businesses inside listed companies that also run food delivery, so they can fund a price war from another business. Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now bring the balance sheets of the two largest e-commerce platforms in the country. BigBasket, owned by Tata, has the grocery supply chain that Zepto has had to build from nothing.[10]
By order volume the race is close at the top and Zepto is not first. In the quarter ending 31 March 2026, Zepto processed 210 million orders against 274 million for Blinkit and 113 million for Swiggy's Instamart, which makes it the second largest by that measure and the fastest growing of the three on revenue. The company is the only one whose entire business is quick commerce, and therefore the only one that has no other cash flow to fall back on.[10]
The competition also runs on speed claims. The ten minute promise that Zepto popularised was attacked in April 2022 by Anand Mahindra, who called such delivery inhuman for the workers who carry it out, and the company's answer has been that riders do not need to travel faster than about 15 kilometres an hour to meet the promise, because the store is close to the customer. That argument is fundamentally about store density, which is to say about capital.[1]
Rivals have copied the model rather than the promise. Every large player now runs dark stores, membership programmes designed to raise order frequency, and category additions beyond groceries, so the differentiation has moved to execution: which company can place the next hundred stores in the right neighbourhoods, at the right rent, with the right pick rate per picker. For a co-founder who built the product, that is the least controllable part of the business.[10]
The prospectus itself frames the industry as fast growing and increasingly crowded, listing Blinkit, Instamart, BigBasket, Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now as competitors in a 10 minute delivery market. Zepto's plan for the listing proceeds, more stores and more technology, is essentially a plan to win a density race, and the deferred listing means it has to run that race on private capital for another few quarters.[10][16]
Zepto by the numbers
The company's disclosed numbers are the clearest picture of what the co-founder has built. Operating revenue for the quarter ending 31 March 2026 was 7,498 crore rupees, a rise of 75 per cent from the same quarter a year earlier, with a net loss of 1,539 crore rupees against 1,832 crore rupees in the earlier quarter. The company processed 210 million orders in the quarter and operated 1,139 dark stores as of 31 March 2026.[10]
At the time of the listing documents the company was five years old and had raised more than 1.5 billion dollars since inception, at valuations that ran from 2.5 million dollars to 7 billion dollars. It had reached a valuation of over 5 billion dollars in 2024 and 7 billion dollars in October 2025. It had also had one product fail completely, KiranaKart, before the second attempt worked.[1][10]
The membership number is the one that best explains how a grocery business becomes predictable. Zepto Pass crossed four million subscribers within two months of its February 2024 launch, meaning a large block of customers had prepaid for delivery and would therefore order more often from the same stores. That is what turns a fixed warehouse cost into a lowering cost per order.[1]
The ownership numbers are the other half of the picture. The promoter group, the two founders plus their families and family offices, held about 19.6 per cent at the time of the updated prospectus, the rest being held by venture funds and other investors after six funding rounds and the 2020 start with a 2.5 million dollar valuation. Both founders chose to keep every share they had rather than sell into the offer for sale.[10]
For a reader trying to judge the company, the honest summary is that Zepto has built a large, fast growing, loss making business whose unit economics turn on store density. Two of its numbers are genuinely unusual for an Indian startup: it reached 1,139 stores in five years, and its two founders are in their early twenties.[10]
Net worth and wealth
Vohra has appeared on the Hurun India rich list three times, and each appearance is a snapshot of his stake at the then current private valuation rather than a bank balance. In September 2022 he was the youngest person on the list at 19 with 1,000 crore rupees. In August 2024, aged 21, he was again the youngest, with 3,600 crore rupees against Aadit Palicha's 4,300 crore rupees. In October 2025, aged 22, he was top of the list's youngest wealth creators segment with 4,480 crore rupees, with Palicha at 5,380 crore rupees.[3][4][5]
The gap between the two co-founders has stayed roughly constant across the three lists, which reflects their relative shareholdings rather than any difference in salary or dividends. Neither founder is paid a large dividend, because Zepto has never reported a profit, so essentially all of Vohra's reported wealth is the paper value of his equity.[4][5]
That makes the wealth figure unusually sensitive to a single price. The 2025 figure of 4,480 crore rupees was struck at the 7 billion dollar valuation of the October 2025 round. When the anchor book for the listing was being built in July 2026 at a reported 5.1 billion dollars, it implied a markdown of roughly a quarter on the last private mark, and the pre-IPO placement that followed the deferral will set the next reference price. A reported net worth built on an unlisted company is a moving estimate, not a fact, and this page treats it that way.[5][12]
There is no reported second source of income. He holds no other listed stake, runs no other company, and has not been reported as an angel investor in the way many Indian founders of his generation are. His wealth is one asset with one price, and until the shares are listed that price is set by a private round every year or so.[3][10]
For comparison, the same Hurun list that ranked him youngest in 2024 also carried Alakh Pandey of Physics Wallah at 4,500 crore rupees and the Razorpay founders Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar at 8,700 crore rupees, both of them a decade older. The list is the only consistent public measurement of his wealth, and it is compiled from shareholding disclosures rather than from interviews.[4]
Wife, children and family
Nothing about Vohra's family or his personal life has been reported by a licensed publisher, and this entry does not fill the gap. There is no reported spouse, no engagement, no wedding coverage, no children and no family business behind the company. In a country where founder weddings are covered as business news, the absence is itself the record.[1][2]
What is reported about him outside the company is thin and work related. The one widely covered personal moment came from a recruiting mistake in August 2023, when a product design applicant was offered a delivery job instead and posted the email; Vohra replied publicly and asked for his resume and portfolio. Nothing about his family, his schooling or his relationships followed from that coverage.[8]
His public profile is deliberately low. He has given few interviews, has no public personal website or social media presence of the kind that other quick commerce founders maintain, and the company's communications run through the chief executive. For a promoter of a company heading to the public market, that reticence is unusual and is likely to be tested by the listing process, where promoters usually become the public face of the issue.[1][7]
On residence, the only detail in the record is the company's own move. Zepto transferred its headquarters from Mumbai to Bengaluru in 2024, and both founders work from the Bengaluru office. No publisher has reported where he lives, and there is no reported house purchase, property holding or real estate transaction in his name.[1][10]
The one thing that can be said about his personal circumstances is structural. He was 19 when he first appeared on a list of India's richest people, 21 when he was on it for the second time, and 22 when he topped its youngest segment. He has spent his entire adult life inside one company, and everything written about him starts with that company and ends with it.[3][4][5]
Personal life and habits
There is no reported account of how Vohra spends his time outside Zepto, and the press coverage of him is almost entirely about the company. He does not appear in the social circuit coverage that follows young Indian founders, he has not been reported as a speaker at the large startup conferences, and he has no published writing about the business.[2][8]
The closest thing to a personal statement in the record is his reply to the delivery boy viral post in August 2023, where he asked the applicant for his resume and portfolio rather than commenting on the mistake. It reads as the response of someone who reads the internet less as an audience and more as a source of candidates.[8]
His working life has been described only indirectly. The engineering team he started with the company's first employee grew past 200 people, the company's headcount reached about 1,300 by early 2024, and the firm has since added more than 900 dark stores. Whatever habits he has, they have been spent on an operation that grew by that much in about five years.[7][10]
The absence of personal detail in the licensed press is worth stating plainly rather than covering with generic filler. This page can describe what he built, what it is worth on paper and how the company is run. It cannot describe his family, his marriage, his home or his habits, because no newspaper, wire service or magazine has published them, and inventing any of it would make the entry less accurate, not more complete.[1][2]
House and property
No property purchase by Vohra has been reported. There is no registered real estate transaction, no house, apartment or land holding in his name in the licensed press, and the Hurun listings that value him do so entirely through his Zepto shareholding.[4][5]
What the record does contain is company property rather than personal property. Zepto moved its headquarters from Mumbai to Bengaluru in 2024, and its 1,139 dark stores are the largest physical asset in his business, though almost all of them are leased. The listing papers set aside money for lease rentals on existing facilities as well as for new stores, which tells the reader that the warehouse estate is rented rather than owned.[1][10]
The house question that search engines ask about Indian founders usually comes from wealth list coverage, which sometimes mentions a family home or a holiday property. In Vohra's case the list entries carry no such detail, and there is no reported family home that could be attributed to him. This section exists to say that there is no verified information, rather than to leave the question unanswered in silence.[3][4]
The only real estate he is publicly associated with is the company's planned expansion. The listing proceeds were earmarked for expanding the dark store network in existing and new markets, and the deferral of the listing in August 2026 delayed that spending along with everything else tied to the issue.[10][16]
Awards and recognition
His recognition is almost entirely from the wealth lists rather than from industry awards. Hurun India named him the youngest person on its rich list in 2022 at 19, with a reported net worth of 1,000 crore rupees, and repeated that in 2024 at 21 with 3,600 crore rupees. In 2024 the Hurun India under 30 list also carried him and Palicha among the country's top young entrepreneurs.[3][4][5]
In October 2025 the Hurun India rich list put the two Zepto founders at the top of its youngest wealth creators segment, Vohra at 22 with 4,480 crore rupees and Palicha at 23 with 5,380 crore rupees. The report framed the pair as evidence of how technology compresses the time it takes to build a large fortune in India.[5]
The company's own milestones are also part of his record. Zepto was the first Indian startup to become a unicorn in 2023, when it raised 200 million dollars at a valuation of 1.4 billion dollars, and it is set to be the first standalone quick commerce company to list on the Indian exchanges, after the quick commerce arms of Eternal and Swiggy.[1][7]
There is no reported national honour, no industry award for entrepreneurship and no academic recognition attached to his name. The recognition he has is the financial kind, which is measured from a share register rather than awarded by a jury.[3][5]
Philanthropy
There is no philanthropic foundation, no published pledge and no named giving programme associated with Vohra. At 23, with a private company that has never reported a profit and a fortune that exists only on paper, he is at the stage where Indian founders usually begin such commitments, and nothing of the kind is in the record. This entry says so rather than converting company activity into personal charity.[1][4]
The public contribution his company makes is employment, and that argument is made by the industry rather than by him. Zepto and its peers together employ over three million gig workers, most of them delivery riders, according to the company's own article on the sector, and the co-founders of the quick commerce firms have repeatedly pointed to that workforce as the sector's largest social footprint. The same workforce is also the source of the sector's sharpest criticism.[1]
The company has made contributions in kind rather than in cash. The Bloom service was aimed at helping farmers move produce from villages to cities, and the company has campaigned for cold chain and ripening infrastructure investment on the argument that wasted produce is a national loss. Those are commercial programmes with a public benefit, not charity, and no personal donation by the co-founder has been reported.[1]
This section is short because the record is short. A page that invented a scholarship or a foundation to fill the space would be worse than one that states the position. The likeliest moment for a change is after the listing, when a private paper fortune becomes a liquid one, but as of the latest available reporting in October 2026 there is nothing to report.[4][5]
Controversies and criticism
The most serious matter attached to the founders is the foreign exchange investigation. Zepto disclosed in its updated prospectus that both co-founders received summons from the Enforcement Directorate on 8 April 2026 seeking information under the foreign exchange law, and that Vohra appeared before the agency on 17 April and 22 April while Palicha appeared on 20 April and 15 May. The company said both had provided the documents requested, including details of the holding structure, the scheme of arrangement, agreements and invoices.[11]
Reporting on the summons connected the investigation to alleged money laundering involving a Cyprus based betting platform that is banned in India. The allegation, as reported, is that Zepto ran promotional campaigns for the betting app and circulated flyers with customer orders, in effect delivering gambling advertising into households. The company's disclosure in the prospectus is that it cooperated with the agency, and no charge against the two founders has been reported.[11]
The company has also faced sustained criticism over its app's selling practices. Since 2024, Zepto has been accused of dark patterns, differential pricing in which the same item shows a different price on different phones, drip pricing where charges appear only at the final bill, and price gouging. One widely circulated example was a Bengaluru customer finding a large gap between the Android and iPhone prices of the same order, which reached the national press.[1]
The labour criticism predates all of it. Anand Mahindra's comment in April 2022 that ten minute delivery is inhuman to the workers who carry it out was answered by the company's chief executive, who argued that riders do not need to go faster than about 15 kilometres an hour because the store is near the customer. Independent reporting on delivery riders, including work by Al Jazeera, has described the pressure the model puts on the workforce, and the company has not disputed that the model is demanding.[1]
Regulatory action has begun to follow the physical network. In October 2026 food safety authorities in Telangana suspended the licences of dark stores belonging to Zepto and its competitors over violations, and the Bengaluru East City Corporation fined the company for failing to follow solid waste segregation rules. Those are company level matters rather than personal ones, but they are the risks that come with the thousand warehouse network the co-founder helped design.[1]
