Simran Dhanwani

Simran Dhanwani is a Mumbai creator who arrived in the middle of the first wave of Indian YouTube comedy and has stayed in it since. She was born Karuna, a name her parents replaced with the one Kajol's character made famous, and she spent her early twenties as a familiar face inside somebody else's channel before building a page of her own in December 2018. Her work is a mix of dance covers, sketches and vlogs, which is a broader brief than most comedy creators carry. In February 2024 she married the creator Akash Dodeja, the Jadoo of the Chanchlani videos, and the wedding became a piece of content in its own right.

Who Simran Dhanwani is

Simran Dhanwani is a Mumbai based creator who belongs to the generation of Indian YouTubers that came up inside other people's channels. She was not a solo act who built an audience from nothing. She was the woman in the sketch, a recurring face in Ashish Chanchlani's videos from December 2016 onward, and the audience learned her face before it learned her name.[1][2]

That is a specific kind of career and it has a specific shape. A creator who starts as a supporting presence in an ensemble gets reach quickly and ownership slowly. The followers belong to the channel that publishes the video, not to the person in it, which is why almost every creator who comes up this way eventually starts a page of their own. Dhanwani did it in December 2018, two years after her first appearance.[1][3]

Her own page is broader than comedy. Dance coverage, sketches and travel and daily life vlogs sit next to each other, and dance is the skill she lists first when she describes herself. The result is a channel that does not depend on one format, which is a safer position than it looks. A pure comedy channel lives or dies with a single style of joke.[1]

Outside the channel she is one half of a creator marriage. She married Akash Dodeja, who plays Jadoo in the Chanchlani videos, in February 2024, and the pair are among the better known couples in Indian digital comedy.[1][2]

Karuna, and a name borrowed from a film

She was born Karuna. Her parents changed the name after watching Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, the 1995 film in which Kajol plays Simran Singh, and the new name stayed. It is the detail most profiles of her lead with, partly because it is charming and partly because it is one of the few pieces of her early life that she has talked about herself.[1]

The coincidence is that the film released in 1995, the year she was born, and the character whose name she took is a woman defined by a family's decision about who she should marry. Her own life has gone the other way, which is not a comparison she has made and not one this entry will make for her.[1]

She grew up in Mumbai, in a household that had nothing to do with entertainment. Her father is a businessman in Maharashtra and her mother is a homemaker. She has an older brother, Karan Dhanwani, who is himself active on social media, and a sister named Megha Dhanwani. Her parents' names have not been published.[1]

Ulhasnagar, a media degree and the suburbs

She went to New Era High School in Ulhasnagar, the Sindhi majority town in the Thane district that sits at the end of the Mumbai suburban line. It is a specific kind of Bombay geography, neither the south Bombay of the film industry nor the new towers of the business districts, and it produced its own culture of mimicry, music and stage shows.[1]

She then studied at Kishinchand Chellaram College in Mumbai, where she completed a Bachelor of Mass Media. KC College is one of the city's older arts and commerce institutions and has a strong reputation for cultural societies, which is where a large number of Mumbai media careers actually begin.[1]

The degree matters less than what it signals. A mass media graduate from a Mumbai college in the mid 2010s was entering a job market where the traditional routes, advertising, television, print, were contracting, and the new route, a camera and an internet connection, was just becoming viable. Her batch was the first that could plausibly choose the second.[1]

Her schooling has been reported consistently and there is no dispute about it. What has never been set out is anything about her childhood, her interests before college or how she got her first introduction to the Chanchlani team, and this entry does not pretend to know.[1]

The vines era and Ashish Chanchlani

Her first appearance was on 17 December 2016, in a video called Talking To Your Crush For The First Time: Expectations vs Reality, published on the ashish chanchlani vines channel. The Expectations vs Reality format was the dominant shape of Indian YouTube comedy in that period, a two panel sketch in which the imagined version of an ordinary situation collapses into the real one.[1]

The word vines in the channel name is a leftover from the six second video app that had made a generation of Indian performers famous before it shut down in 2017. The performers did not disappear when the app did. They moved to YouTube and Instagram, kept the name, and built longer formats on the same comic instincts. Chanchlani's channel is the clearest example of that migration.[1][2]

Dhanwani was one of a group of performers who appeared across several of these channels, including Akash Dodeja's, Kunal Chhabhria's and Anmol Sachar's. That circuit is how the ecosystem worked before individual creators became brands. A performer who was funny and reliable got called for other people's videos, and the cumulative exposure built a reputation that a single channel could not.[1]

It also meant her early career is documented in other people's uploads rather than her own. Anyone reconstructing it has to go through the credit lists and the thumbnails of a dozen channels from 2016 to 2018, which is why her filmography reads more like a filmography than a content calendar.[1]

A channel of her own

She started her own YouTube channel on 14 December 2018. The first upload was a channel teaser called Mera First Video Hai, which is the sort of title that a creator uses when there is no content yet and the audience needs to be told that content is coming.[1]

The channel has since crossed two million subscribers, and YouTube listed it at about 2.08 million in November 2026. That is a substantial number and a difficult one to reach, because the Indian creator market is crowded and the growth curve flattens sharply after the first million.[3]

The transition from supporting face to lead creator is harder than it looks. An audience that enjoys a performer in fifteen second bursts inside somebody else's sketch does not automatically follow them to a longer format, and the ones who do expect a version of the person rather than a character. Dhanwani's solution was to widen the brief: dance, then vlogs, then sketches, so that there is always a reason to watch that is not a joke.[1]

The dates are worth keeping in view. She launched the channel three years after she first appeared on camera and one month before the end of 2018, which means the page has been growing through the entire period in which Indian YouTube professionalised, from rough sketches shot in bedrooms to sponsored series with crews.[1][3]

Dance, vlogs and the question of range

Dance is the thread that runs through her content. She posts cover videos and choreographies regularly, and it is the skill she lists first among her interests. Her cover of the song First Class from the film Kalank is one of the videos that gets cited as an example.[1]

That matters for a reason beyond the videos themselves. A dance cover is a performance with a fixed standard, unlike a comedy sketch where the performer controls the timing and the edit. An audience can see immediately whether a dancer can dance, which makes the format a credential as much as a piece of content.[1]

The vlogs do a different job. They give a creator a place to be a person rather than a performer, and they are the format that converts casual viewers into an audience that follows a life rather than a series. For someone whose early fame came from being a character in somebody else's sketch, that conversion is the whole game.[1]

The sketches sit between the two and are the part of the channel that owes most to the vines training. Short, dialogue driven, built around a single comic premise, they are the closest thing on her page to the videos that made her known.[1]

The UNICEF campaign

In 2019 UNICEF marked thirty years of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child with an awareness campaign, and Dhanwani was invited to take part. The campaign covered child labour, human trafficking and slavery, and she posted about it in November 2019.[1]

It is a small item in a long record and it stands out for that reason. She has not attached herself to many public causes, and a creator with two million followers has a platform that NGOs want. The campaign is the one non entertainment project on her record that is documented.[1]

The wider context is that Indian creators of her generation were being pulled into public interest work throughout that period, partly because brands and agencies had begun to treat social reach as a form of civic infrastructure. Whether that produces lasting commitment or a single post is a fair question, and the record here supports the single post.[1]

Akash Dodeja, the proposal and the leap day wedding

She married Akash Dodeja, a comedic actor, vlogger and YouTuber who is known to the Chanchlani audience as Jadoo. The two had moved in the same creator circuit for years, and Ashish Chanchlani later said they fell in love around the time The Palti-Khor Friend video was shot in 2017, which makes him the person who watched it happen.[1][2]

She announced the engagement on 3 January 2024 by posting photographs of the proposal on Instagram, with a caption about falling in love with her best friend and about how hard it had been to keep the news quiet. Chanchlani congratulated the couple publicly and told the story of how they met, which is how the timeline became public at all.[2]

The wedding took place on 29 February 2024. A leap day wedding is a deliberate choice and a good one for a couple who work in content, because the date is memorable, searchable and comes with a built in joke. It also means the anniversary arrives once every four years, which is either romantic or impractical depending on who is asked.[1]

Their marriage is now part of the content both of them make. Couple videos, wedding footage and the ordinary domestic material that creator couples produce are a genre in themselves in India, and the audience that followed them separately has consolidated around them together.[1][2]

The business of a two million subscriber channel

Her income comes mainly from YouTube. The channel carries advertising revenue, and brand integrations sit alongside the regular uploads, which is the standard structure for Indian creators at her scale. The second stream is Instagram, where collaborations with fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands pay on reach rather than on views.[1]

Dance and campaign work adds a third. A creator who can appear in a brand's film as a performer rather than as a talking head is more useful to an agency than one who can only do a piece to camera, and her dance background is what makes that possible.[1]

The published estimate of her net worth, between about two crore and three crore rupees, is not a disclosed figure. It is assembled by profile sites from subscriber counts, brand rates and assumptions about upload frequency. Nobody outside her household knows what she actually earns, and any number presented as fact should be read as a guess with a decimal point.[1][3]

What can be measured is the scale. A channel of about 2.08 million subscribers is a mid sized Indian creator business, large enough to support a team and a steady brand calendar, small enough that it depends on consistency. The channel has been running since December 2018, which is the part of the record that says the most about the work.[3]

What has not been confirmed

Her date of birth is given in two forms. The profile that most sites copy says 15 October 1995, which made her 31 in 2026. At least one other lists 15 September 1994. She has not confirmed either, and this entry uses the more widely repeated date while noting the conflict.[1]

Her height is quoted at about 163 cm, or five feet four inches, and her weight at around 58 kg, with body measurements listed as 34-26-35. None of it comes from her, and the numbers vary between the sites that repeat them. They are not repeated here as fact.[1]

The subscriber count of about 2.08 million is the figure YouTube shows on her channel as of November 2026, and it moves. The same applies to the video count and to any claim about her monthly views, which no public source states reliably.[3]

Her earnings are not disclosed and her net worth is an estimate. The figure of two to three crore rupees that circulates is a calculation by profile sites, not a statement from her or from any business filing.[1]

The details of how she was cast in her first Chanchlani video, who introduced her to that group, and whether she had done any performance work before 2016 have not been reported anywhere this entry could find. Her early career exists on camera and almost nowhere in print.[1]

One thing that should be said plainly: she is not a Bigg Boss 20 contestant. Her name circulates in the same search results as that season because several of its contestants are creators from the same circuit, and the association is a search artefact rather than a fact.[1]
